Step inside an engineering school, and you expect innovation at every turn. Computers hum. Students scribble breakthrough concepts. Now add a striking set of 3D acrylic letters, shouting “Changemaking Engineers,” right above a giant world map. It’s a scene that screams, “We’re shaping the future.”
We’re North Coast Signs, located in Vista, just a short drive from San Diego. We thrive on projects that fuse style with purpose. This time, we took on an assignment for an engineering program that wanted something bold, informative, and globally inspired.
Letters That Pop
A blank wall is fine if you like dull spaces. But these folks wanted energy. We used 1/2-inch thick acrylic for dimension and painted it Duranodic Bronze with a matte finish. That color reads sleek and professional. It also pairs nicely with modern décor, especially in a place that values cutting-edge ideas.
For the main heading, we made the letters 5 inches tall: “Changemaking Engineers.” Beneath that, we added smaller letters—3 inches tall—for “CENTER FOR CYBERSECURITY ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY.” Different sizes highlight the hierarchy of text. It directs your eyes to what matters most and then leads you to the supporting information.
Solid, Secure Mounting
Sure, 3D letters look cool. But if they’re crooked or loose, the wow factor fades. We used stud mounting to anchor each piece firmly on the wall. That means each letter stays level and snug, year after year. When people see a crisp, even alignment, they sense a certain confidence and care. It’s a detail that leaves a lasting impression.
A World of Inspiration
Tech and engineering aren’t just local matters. They span the globe. So the school asked for a world map wall—a vinyl graphic that covers 123 inches tall by 228.5 inches wide. We chose a matte overlaminate to cut glare and give the print a classy, muted finish. The color? A subtle brown that contrasts with the bronze letters yet feels like part of the same family. Students can walk by, glance at the map, and remember that their work has global reach.
Measurements That Matter
When you’ve got a graphic this big, every inch counts. We triple-checked the final size—123 inches by 228.5 inches—to ensure it fits the wall without weird overhangs or empty gaps. Precise installation keeps the design looking clean as if it was always meant to be there. One miscalculation, and the entire project can feel off-balance. That’s why we approach each stage with focus.
Why Details Count
An engineering school thrives on details. That same principle applies to signage. If the letters are off-center by a fraction, people notice. If the colors clash, it disrupts the harmony of the space. We made sure the edges were smooth, the paint coverage was even, and the letters lined up just right. Everything had to reflect the school’s commitment to precision.
Ready to Stand Out?
At North Coast Signs, we understand that signage does more than label a wall. It shapes perceptions, boosts morale, and builds an identity. People walk in and think, “This place is serious about what they do.” Whether you need a simple vinyl logo or a full-blown 3D display, we’re here to make it a reality.
