Every guest visit starts the same way: not with a ticket, not with a ride, but in the parking lot.

LEGOLAND Carlsbad knew that if guests felt lost or overwhelmed before they even entered the park, the magic would never feel quite right. That’s why their team reached out to North Coast Signs, a sign company based in Vista, CA that serves Carlsbad and surrounding cities. They didn’t need another print vendor. They needed a signage system that worked like infrastructure—visually playful, structurally strong, and built to support thousands of people moving every day.
Turning Light Poles Into Branded Navigation
Instead of labeling parking zones with letters or numbers, LEGOLAND made a smarter move. They used their own LEGO minifigure characters as row markers, giving every guest a visual anchor they could recognize instantly. Parents no longer had to remember “Zone D” or “Lot 5.” They could simply tell the kids, “We parked by the pirate.” And the kids never forgot.
North Coast Signs fabricated 56 banners, each printed double-sided on 18oz block-out vinyl. The banners were designed to be 24 inches wide by 60 inches tall to ensure visibility while keeping the look balanced within the space. These banners didn’t just fit the brand—they became part of it. They weren’t signs for a parking lot. They were an extension of the park experience.
Engineered To Last In High-Traffic Environments
LEGOLAND’s parking lot sees constant movement—cars, strollers, foot traffic, buses, and Southern California’s coastal elements. That meant each banner had to do more than look good on install day. It had to endure. We reinforced every top and bottom pocket, used grommets at all four corners for proper tensioning, and clean-cut the edges to reduce fray and fading.
To keep the banners upright and secure, we installed them with custom banner rod hardware and wind-rated brackets. These weren’t off-the-shelf kits. They were engineered to handle movement, pressure, and weather while maintaining a clean, professional look across all 56 locations.
Installation Tailored To The Site, Not The Template
Carlsbad’s pavement slope made installation trickier than usual. A standard scissor lift wouldn’t provide the safe access we needed, so we used a bucket truck to safely reach every pole. Our install team mapped each location and adjusted the angle, height, and sightline of every banner to account for elevation changes and pedestrian flow.
We completed the entire two-day installation in coordination with LEGOLAND’s operations team, ensuring we stayed out of guest pathways and finished on schedule without compromising alignment or precision.
Not Just Signage—Emotional Orientation
After installation, guests no longer had to wander. They navigated by memory. Kids remembered their favorite minifigure, and parents followed that visual cue straight back to their car. These weren’t just light pole banners. They were wayfinding tools with a story—markers that made movement easier and the day a little better.
The banners helped visitors start strong and end on the right note, creating emotional consistency between entry and exit. When signs do their job this well, people rarely notice them. But when they don’t, frustration fills the gap fast.
